The Delta Expo

So, Delta Township, our fair township, held their annual expo today and the Nelsons manned our church's booth for a while. I blew up balloons and Danielle painted faces. Not a bad gig. At first I was blowing up the balloons as huge as I could get them; the cool guy, right? But soon the whole place was filled with bursting balloons and freaked out kids. I learned an important lesson.

They had a Super Bounce there, which Willow was pretty interested in at least looking at.

Bear had his face painted with some unlicensed athletic logos of local collegiate institutions. Also a mouse.

Don't pay attention to whatever embarrassing thing Danielle is doing. I'm sure there is some logical explanation. Even Bear is pretending not to notice.

Willow enjoyed her brief moments of freedom. That's a flower painted on her head. Eventually we peeled her out of that big snow suit which greatly increased both her range of motion and speed. She is a lot like Randy in A Christmas Story; when she has that huge thing all bundled up, she just lays on the ground a refuses to move. She just looks around and waits to be carted somewhere.

Kadence at Seaworld

The Nelson crew, including Burt and Chris, took a trip to Sea World to see how sunburned Bryce could get. The answer? Pretty burned.

The Donut Spaz

Stopped by the "donut factory" on my way home and picked up a dozen raspberry filled jelly donuts. Who can resist a Krispy Kreme donut? Seriously. Here, Bear eagerly devours his donut and sports his new hat, a marketing triumph. We will spend most of the next couple days answering "no" to repeated requests for multiple donuts -until they are gone.

Leap Day

It is leap day. February 29th, 2008. I want to paint crazy indian designs along the borders of all walls and molding in the house because we watched Darjeeling limited the other day, and now own it. The extras showed us the process of painting the sweet train, but i fear that i will just increase the intense speed our house is already depreciating. I think i have a high tendency to want to do things that will decrease the value of our home, and knowing i am not as passionate and motivated when i have to fix them, try to talk myself out of it...knowing that my house would be way more artsy quirky fun if i just went ahead with the changes. If only john had the passion to make this an artsy palace...he is in full support of it, but he is the detail man and i am the hack. If he were in charge of the operation the painting would be gorgeous, with me it'll look ok, but i will know. I will know where the flaws are and it will drive me nuts. He would make it beautiful, i will make it fun. Maybe i will start and he will be motivated to perfect the place....now, which wall would be a good tester....maybe i should start on paper first.

Dan's Song

Well, it's February 26 again. And that means one thing...

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house, Dan, where the Shaws could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song, Dan, and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is now Dan's in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you, Dan, they keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're brown or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind...
I hope you don't mind...
That I put down in words...
How wonderful life is...
now DAN'S IN THE WORLD

Happy birthday, Dan.
