Superfan

I (John) have a new favorite artist, Eric Beal. Up there is his poster for the 2008 Alaska Folk Festival. He is a wood block carver and carved that thing and then painted it in in layers. It rules. He and his wife live subsistance-style on the side of a mountain in Alaska. Here is an article about him: http://juneauempire.com/stories/040804/thi_ffest.shtml

Here is a close up of part of that painting...

Beer Failure

"And this one is for my homies."
Here I am pouring out my failed first beer batch. It never fermented. I suspect it was the hot pepper I put in the boil. I have heard that hot spice is a preservative/anti-septic -so maybe I foolishly added a serious anti-fermentation ingredient. Oh well.
It smelled great when I poured it out though and I will try again -this time without the cayenne. If I drank this I am sure I would have died a cold, clammy, gray, shivery, hallucinogenic, two-day death.

Crap I like

I like to open the dishwasher before its done and let the steam hit me in the face. It smells good and it feels good. But it fogs up my glasses.

Mitch

An Igoogle quote of the day from one of our fav comedians....

I don't own a cell phone or a pager. I just hang around everyone I know, all the time. If someone wants to get a hold of me, they just say 'Mitch,' and I say 'what?' and turn my head slightly. - Mitch Hedberg

We love the priests!!!

We know you are out there, somewhere under the great blue sky. We miss you! Let's hang. You will be in Mackinaw this weekend, we won't because i am mega-prego, but am anxious to show you a baby soon. Good luck in school next week to my niece and nephew, and i hope you have some good friends in your class and your teachers are not pains in the rear end....love, Dani

Flag Football Kicks Off

Bear had his first flag football practice today. It is going to be interesting and hilarious.

Peach Toast

All Nelson kids should recognise this piece of toast as a Burt Nelson special: peach toast. Dad liked to make toast for us with peanut butter and slices of peach. Peach toast is like a time machine that puts me in front of our little tv in the living room at 352 staying up late with Dad watching Sanford and Son.

I always wondered why Dad peeled the peaches first (I don't bother). Then I saw Grandma Lillian do it. She also likes to make peach toast. And she makes some kind of raspberry tapioca pudding that rules.
