Weekend

This weekend we went to Mackinaw at the last minute. Cheryl, Kevin, Walker, and Taylor were there, too. Lots o fun.

Danielle went to her "dealer" and was all, 'Where's my money, man. Give me my money, man. Where's my money? Give me my money, man." She got a fist full of cash and the rest of her inventory and it funded our trip. As she was collecting, Willow and Bear generally terrorized Mackinaw Crossing.

We had breakfast Saturday morning at the Senior Center, where seniors Burt and Chris frequent. It was $2.50 per adult and the kids were free.

Danielle got compliments on her hats that she has made. She talked to some retailer from a store called Caddywampus on the island and they might sell them for her there.

The whole drive home, Danielle read out loud to us from an American road trip travel memoir called Travels with Charlie by John Steinbeck. It is great so far.

Another of the hats. This one Willow will wear for Halloween as Leia.

Sonofagun

So today Suzie and Dino were all "You spelled Juneau's name like three different ways on your blog! You're the one who named him that you have to at least spell it right!"

So in a mission to prove them wrong I scoured this blog and discovered that I, John, had indeed misspelled the name Juneau consistently. Two misspelled versions (Juenau and Jeneau or something like that) and the right version. That makes three. Darn it.

On my defense, I firmly maintain that I do know how to spell Juneau (as it happens the same way the capital of Alaska is spelled), I just suffered from a consistent typo. You know, every time I typed it out it felt like I blew it but then I would look quickly and sure enough it looked ok. What does that mean? Do I have a very specific form of brain damage or just a very general common form of brain damage, as Cheryl maintains?

Anyways, for the record...

Wear this for Halloween, He Will

Danielle made this hat for Juneau for Halloween. I think it makes him look old and wise.

Just some picture.

OK, Finally...

Danielle picked up Casablanca from the library the other day and when we had an evening free we finally sat down and watched what our culture has tought us is the second or third best movie ever made. It's true; we had never seen it. I only had the vaguest idea of what it was about but I sure recognized like six quoetes from it.

What was it about? Redemption...and some Scandinavian chick who fell in love with a dude who smokes and looks older than he is and then she leaves him waiting on a train platform in Paris as Nazis invade without explanation because she discovers the resistance leader dude she was married to who she thought was dead from a concentration camp was actually alive and now several years later she has to rely on the startled resentful man she abandoned who is in a position to secure her and her husband visas to the U.S. but he is filled with confused feelings of lingering love and the sting of ultimate rejection and the hollowness that remains and he must face down his own bitterness and apathy and choose between a potentially selfish love he never thought would return that may satisfy in the short term and the truth of his position to do good and ensure another's happiness and return to a life of conviction and purpose. Casablanca wants me to ask myself what is truth, and what is love.

In closing, it really was a good movie, they aren't full of crap. But it is so old that the color has totally faded out of the film strip or something because everything was just various shades of gray.

Danielle liked it too. Here is a direct quote: "Dude, for a movie that's like 70 years old, it was pretty good!"

Linsey's Premonition

This is the kind of picture that gets published in the image panel insert in a memoir of a long rich life.

"As a young journalist in eastern Michigan, Stephen covers a meeting of the local politic while fellow attendees feign interest with varying scepticism. Two weeks later, Stephen would begin a bold self-financed crusade to chronicle without pretension the last days of the 2008 presidential election, for which he would be equally castigated and praised. By the spring of the following year, his readers would be legion. Image by Keith King"

Extreme!!

Extreme Makeover Home Edition came to Holt, Michigan. The house they are destroying and rebuilding happens to be about 3/4 of a mile from where I work! Yeah, I know. So at lunch we drove by the site to catch a glimpse of the action and they have the road blocked off. That Sherrif's Deputy was all business, but he did wave back. I could hear hammers and stuff, which makes me almost famous.

Happy Birthday, Suria!!!!

Kiss and Yell

Cheezieness factor: 9.5
Outside Immediate Family Interest Factor: 1.2...
In any case, Willow greatly enjoys giving Juneau kisses. He does not seem to mind. That is, he doesn't groan and grunt and squeek any more or less than usual, which by the way is a ton.

Eyeball Quiz VI

Who is this person???

So pretty much everyone was right. That is Dean's eyeball up there all right. Here is the proof...

Socialistic Security

It's official: Jueanu is an actual person in the eyes of the US Federal Government. He now has his very own social security number. Juneau is ON THE GRID.

For now, Juneau has more important things to think about.
