Today I stayed home with Danielle and the kids because they were not feeling so hot (just a little off, nothing dreadful) and it would be a bummer for Dani to have to manage ill monkeys when she was off-peak herself. And it was a nice day and I was glad I stayed home to help.
Then D was feeling a lot better and thought it would be nice to get out of the house and get a light dinner at a pretty nice place that we like a couple miles away. I was a little surprised but glad the family was feeling more mobile.
We settled in and had just had out meal served when little Nino coughed a little. It wasn't a horrible cough or anything, just a familiar little sputter that made me nervous. I remember thinking that if he were Willow he would have barfed like a fountain right then. But, apparently he is more like Willow than I realized. A few seconds after thinking that, he...unloaded. I didn't think that his little frame could hold that much barf. It was like he was a water balloon filled with oatmeal and someone popped him.
I tried catching what I could at first but it was like trying to contain a tipped barrel of oyster stew with my bear hands. "Oh...my...gosh" could be heard from an unfortunate nearby table.
This all happened in a couple seconds and Danielle didn't miss a beat and said to the waitress, who had just delivered the meal, if we 'could get that in a box.' I've never seen a meal boxed and a check delivered so quickly in my life. Our waitress was really nice about the whole thing. On the way out an understandably flustered Danielle dropped a tub of ranch dressing in the hallway. When it rains it pours.
You know what? In retrospect, it looks like that trip out just wasn't meant to be. That poor place. That poor, poor place.
